10 Tips for Mother's Day
Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to treat your regulars and attract new customers. No matter how small, extra touches can really help to make your mums feel special.

1. Think about the event in advance. Decide what you will offer and advertise early. Customers may not think about the day until you prompt them to consider coming to your outlet. If you need some ideas about advertising your event read our Marketing your event guide. Choose a poster from the poster section on barbox to advertise your day.

2.  Make sure you will have enough staff, and brief them in offering exceptional customer service. This will not only make mum feel special, but also encourage customers to return.  Large family gatherings may include new customers that you will want to visit again. Read more in our Offering great customer service article.

3. Give your outlet a fresh feminine feel. Colourful napkins, fresh linen, flowers on the tables and even in the toilets will all create the right ambience. Make sure everywhere is extremely clean including your cutlery.

4. Gifts. Why not offer to supply flowers or chocolates as an extra when you take the bookings? Have some gifts available to purchase behind the bar for those who have left things to the last minute.

5. Why not hold a raffle with some spa treats and other ladies gifts as prizes?

6.Don’t limit Mother’s Day activities to the Sunday. Some mum’s will want to be taken out and treated in the evenings without the kids.

7. Make dining easy for mums with small touches to entertain the kids. Colouring activity packs are always a hit. Why not download our Mother’s Day quiz from the Quizmaster section of barbox? Read Keeping the kids happy for more inspiration.

8. Turn the day into an event. Think about hiring a kids’ entertainer to hold a crafts session and make gifts for the mums.   This really will give mum a day off and encourage the family to stay longer and boost profits. If you have not got the space for a craft session what about a kids magician who can circulate around the tables?

9. Finishing touches: Why not offer the mums a chocolate or a single flower with the bill?

10. Menus. Think about specials and set meals that you can offer on the day. Why not have a special Mother’s Day drinks menu promoting your best wines and cocktails? Speciality teas and coffees are a good way of rounding off a special meal, but can be offered throughout the day as well.
